Winstrike v NRG - IEM Katowice 2019

The core of the team was previously known as Quantum Bellator Fire, but they renamed themselves to Winstrike in the early summer of 2017. A couple of months later, Winstrike benched balblna, Kvik, waterfaLLZ and jmqa. After the London Major 2018, they acquired n0rb3r7 along with former FlipSid3 Tactics duo WorldEdit and wayLander. In addition, Kvik who was recently benched was recalled to the starting line-up. Overall, they have a younger squad than Runtime. Both WorldEdit and wayLander can be considered as veterans as they were also present in Source. Nonetheless, Boombl4 and Kvik should have enough experience now as they have already attended two majors. The last player n0rb3r7 is only 17 years old but from what I’ve seen from him, I believe he could become the next star player in this team. As mentioned before, the previous core of this team was once known as QBF. Those who remember them, will agree when I say QBF were a team that were not particularly good but were more than capable of upsetting a stronger and bigger team with their aggressive playstyle. While they managed to defeat better teams, QBF on the other side failed to perform against tier 2 and tier 3 teams or got “antistrated” once team analysts started looking their VODs. As for Winstrike Team road to the Major, they are coming from the Minors’ 3rd Place Play-in, where they managed to win two BO1 matches against North and ViCi Gaming. Coming into the Major, they are probably one of the worst teams, priced around 220 at Pinnacle to win the event. I can’t see them getting out of the New Challengers stage, but if their young star n0rb3r7 gets rolling the way he did against lower ranked teams at the Minor, I wouldn’t be surprised if they win an odd map.

NRG faced quite a setback back in July 2018, when the team failed to qualify for the FACEIT London Major 2018 after losing to their NA rivals complexity in the minor play-offs. Despite that, the team decided not to make any roster moves, which worked for them as they were quite successful for the rest of 2018, winning cs_summit 3 and losing in the finals of SuperNova Malta 2018 to the NA super team, Team Liquid. At the moment the roster of the team looks stable and should be in good spirits coming into the major. They are priced around 20.00 to win the Major and they should fancy their chances to at least secure the Legends spot for the next major.

There is no doubt that NRG are the better team here, but at 1.25 they are not attractive enough in a BO1 type of match. Anyway, it is the first round of the major and in the past CIS teams were able to get a surprise win against even better opposition than NRG. We recommend a low bet on Winstrike.

Prediction: Winstrike to win
