Vancouver Whitecaps v Montreal Impact – MLS

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS v MONTREAL IMPACT – Mayor League Soccer
March 6, 2016,  BC Place Vancouver, 22:30 GMT +0

Vancouver Whitecaps FC will open the MLS 2016 regular season on Sunday afternoon, when they host their long-time Canadian rivals Montreal Impact at their home stadium, BC Place.

The hosts had fantastic MLS campaign last year, in which they set a new MLS club record for points(53 points), won their first Voyageurs Cup, and hosted their first MLS home play-off match against Toronto FC. Vancouver have an amazing pre-season behind them, they went 5-1-0 and with four victories coming against MLS teams! Their first three games were all victories beating Seattle Sounders, New England Revolution and Houston Dynamo. They followed this up with a loss at Chicago Fire in what was still a good performance. They ended their pre-season with a pair of victories in the Simple Invitational, winning against last season‘s champions, Portland Timbers(2-0) and against NASL side Minnesota United(3-1).

Montreal started their pre-season with a disappointing loss to the New York Red Bulls(5-0), then drawing with their Academy side(1-1). Another loss came from a match against New York City(1-0), but then they finally managed to win against DC United(4-1). Montreal‘s star striker, Didier Drogba, will miss four of the first five matches this season, due to concerns over playing on artificial surfaces. He finished last season with 11 goals in 11 regular season games, and was probably the reason for their strong finish of the 2015 campaign. The teams also met in the Canadian Championship final last season, Whitecaps FC claiming their first national championship 4-2 on aggregate, winning 2-0 in Vancouver after a 2-2 first-leg result in Montreal.

I expect the odds to go down on Vancouver here, as home ground is a huge advantage in MLS. I predict low scoring game, but with Vancouver eventually winning the match.

Prediction: Vancouver Whitecaps -0.5
Odds: 1.85 SBOBET
