SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES v COLORADO RAPIDS – Mayor League Soccer
March 6, 2015, Avaya Stadium, 20:00 GMT +0
San Jose finished their 2015 campaign on 13th last place in the league overall and on 7th place in Western Conference. Again, they did not qualify for the play-offs, and the didn’t do anything in the US Open, as they were eliminated in fifth round. They didn’t impress me in pre-season, they won against South Korean team Seongham (1-0) and against Sacramento Republic FC (2-1), while they lost to New England Revolution (2-0), Huston Dynamo (1-0) and with a very disappointing display against LA Galaxy (1-0). They finished their pre-season campaign with a win against USL side Arizona United SC(3-0). If they continue like that, they will have a lot of troubles in Western Conference this year. SJ were quite active on transfer market this year, they bring Simon Dawkings back from Derby County, and I think he will be a great addition for a team. They also bring in a couple of rookies, but I think that only Dawkings will go straight into the first team.
Pre-Season has been disappointing for The Rapids with two wins, one draw and one loss. Their first win came against Sacramento Republic FC and it was a lucky late goal. They followed this up by losing to Swope Park Rangers(3-1) and with a draw against Houston Dynamo(0-0). They finished their pre-season with a win against USL side Arizona United SC(3-0)
The Rapids acquired Jermaine Jones in a late trade with New England Revolution, but he wont be available just yet, as he is required to serve a six-game suspension for making contact with referee Mark Geiger during New England’s play-off loss last year to D.C. United.
The Quakes have a 12-game undefeated streak against the Rapids, their last defeat to the Colorado was at the start of the 2011 season, since then, the Quakes have won six of the 12 meetings since, with six draws. Anyway, Colorado are poor travellers and SJ should be able to win this match easily!
