Champions League, the most prestigious football competition in the world, has seen the first result of semi-finals fixture between Real Madrid and Bayern Munchen and what a game it was. Real Madrid came into the second leg with a goal advantage and barely held on to the lead in front of their own fans. However, they came out to be a better side and deserved the spot in the finals, despite many critiques of the match, but to be fair this is almost always the case in a game of such calibre. Now we are only 1 match away from a grand finale where Real Madrid awaits the winner of Roma-Liverpool fixture. Who will it be? We will find out tonight.
First let’s take a look at the home side, AS Roma. What Roma managed to achieve in the quarter-finals against Barcelona was incredible, to say the least, but can they repeat their success against Liverpool? The first concern is the absence of Strootman and Perotti, who do not seem to be ready for the big game. Roma does have players to replace them, but then again not the same quality. The second concern is the fact, Roma needs to win with 3 goals, after losing the first leg 2-5. Scoring against Liverpool shouldn’t be the problem, the problem is containing Liverpool, who arguably boast one of the best-attacking lines at the moment. In other words, Roma needs to attack and protect themselves against counter-attack at the same time. Keeping that in mind, I could easily see this match ending with at least 4 goals (Over 3.5 bet). On the bright side, both Florenzi and Manolas were rested prior to this game, which is a great defensive boost for the team.
The visiting team, Liverpool are coming to Rome with Mane and Henderson both fit after minor injuries, however, Can, Matip and Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss out the game. Still, I can safely say Liverpool does have a strong midfield, despite the absence players. As mentioned before, Liverpool are coming into this match with a quite satisfying lead of 3 goals, morale is high and they believe they have what it takes to once more defeat Roma and advance in the CL. I can’t argue about it, still, the final result is yet to be seen. Liverpool can approach this game in 2 ways. Either they play their natural game and try to push forward with numbers and pace or defend and focus on counterattacks. However, I see the first option best fit for them as I do not believe Liverpool will decide to defend their net for 90 min.
Verdict & Prediction
The first leg finished with a 5-2 win for the English team, which means Roma needs to exceed all expectations and come back from 3 goal deficit. Is it possible? Maybe, they have done it before. Will it happen? Not likely. Liverpool can approach the game with attacking strategy. An early goal for them would set Roma far behind and arguably sealed the deal for them. Liverpool knows they can conceive 2 goals and still advance, but I do not think it will stop them from attacking and trying to get another win. A bet of Liverpool +0 seems as the best option here. Another bet would be over 3.5 goals.
