Renegades had a disappointing 2018. Looking back at the London Major, the Renegades seemingly could not find their form, and with NA online league season closing in, they were ready to make some changes. We saw 3 of their players departing. The coach Ryu left, Nifty went to Team Envy and USTILO decided to return home to play for Tainted Minds. As for Renegades, they decided to sign Jay “liazz” Tregillgas from ORDER and Kiwi Sean “Gratisfaction” Kaiwai from Grayhound Gaming. At first, it all looked good, with a top 8 finish at StarSeries i-League Season 6. On the other side, the Renegades were not very impressive in offline tournaments, with their last-place finish at IEM Chicago. Following the StarSeries i-League Season 6, kassad returned in the coaching role, where he assisted AZR as the new IGL. Later on, Renegades qualified for both online leagues, including a 2nd place finish at ESC (S6). Sadly they did not compete in the offline finals due to visa issues. As for the upcoming Major, they guaranteed their spot at the Asia Minor with their 2nd place finish at the OCE Closed Qualifier. They managed to win the Asian Minor by beating Grayhound 2-1 in a BO3 match. All the roster changes were quite a while ago, there are no rumours about any problems in the team. They are priced around 70.00 at Pinnacle to win the Major, which is a fair price, however, I see no point betting on them, as I do not expect them to get past the group stage.
AVANGAR were rightfully the favourite coming into the Minor Championship, where they convincingly won their group. AVANGAR started their campaign with a win against pro100, but they lost their next match 2-1 to Winstrike in a BO3 match. Nonetheless, they were able to recover and win their remaining matches against pro100(2-0), Spirit(2-0) and Winstrike (2-1), thus receiving 50k and an invite to the Katowice Major. Looking at the previous Major in London 2018, AVANGAR came short at the CIS minor, where they finished 4th after losing to Team Spirit. Despite that, they had quite a successful end to 2018, as they managed to win the Bucharest Gaming Weak Invitational and finally showed up at an international tournament, finishing 3–4th at EPICENTER 2018, ahead of NiP, HellRaisers and ENCE Esports. Looking at this year, AVANGAR played at the GG.Bet Ice Challenge LAN tournament, where they finished 4th after they lost in a close BO3 match to Natus Vincere. AVANGAR have been dominating their own region for the past couple of months and I am quite excited to see what can this team do at the upcoming major in Katowice. They are priced around 100 at Pinnacle.
I am quite surprised to see AVANGAR available at over 1.70 odds, I would rate them to be priced around 1.50-1.60. We recommend a bet on AVANGAR.
Prediction: AVANGAR to win
Odds: 1.74 Pinnacle
