Lyon v PSG – France Ligue One

Lyon v PSG

Lyon will be hugely pumped-up for the visit of the Ligue 1 champions. This is a fantastic opportunity for the hosts (4th) to take points off one of the three sides directly above them in the standings. In front of a 50,000+ crowd Lyon will play to win rather than settling for a draw. Galvanised by excellent five-game form in all competitions (W4-D1-L0) they will believe they can collect all 3pts and will play accordingly, while being wary of PSG’s obvious attacking assets. The hosts’ team news are good as no automatic starters are missing. They’ve used a variety of formations and different personnel this season so there are doubts over how they will line-up but coach Bruno Genesio has excellent options to pick from in most parts of the pitch.

This is a massive game for PSG against the side that finished directly behind them in last season’s final standings. As such it’s one of the biggest fixtures on the calendar and there is immense national focus on the game. PSG will play to win rather than settling for a point. They’re 3rd in the table, behind Nice and Monaco, and need to win just to keep pace with Monaco this weekend, as Monaco beat Marseille 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. That will fire-up the visitors, whose 10-match form in all competitions is tremendous (W8-D2-L0). PSG have poorer team news than Lyon. Left-back Kurzawa and winger Di Maria are ruled out, making the visitors weaker on the left flank. Midfielder Rabiot is also missing, although they have good cover in that area.

Verdict & Prediction

Lyon will be hugely motivated for this massive clash at home to the Ligue 1 champions. The game comes at a fantastic time for Lyon, too, as they have run into form in recent weeks. Unbeaten in five matches (W4-D1-L0), they moved up to fourth in the table thanks to their 1-0 win at Lille last weekend. There will be a huge crowd for this match and Lyon will genuinely believe they can close the gap on PSG, directly above them in the standings. They will play to win rather than being willing to settle for a draw.

Prediction: Lyon +0.50 AH (same as Double Chance, but lower odds, only 1.80 at Bet365)
