Los Angeles Lakers v New Orleans Pelicans – NBA Betting Preview
After winning their recent match against Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers will hope to build on that and add another win to their record with a home match against New Orleans Pelicans, who are currently 0-2 and desperately in need of a win.
Los Angeles Lakers managed to bounce back after a disappointing defeat against LA Clippers in their opener with a win over Phoenix Suns in their recent fixture. They did not only lose their opening match of the season, but the fact they lost to their city rivals only adds salt to the wound. The biggest disappointment in the match against Clippers was the rookie everyone talks about, Lonzo Ball. He did not live up to his expectations with a poor performance (3pts, 4ast, 9 rebs). It was not only him that performed poorly, the team as a whole were just not up to par with Clippers, being that they were outscored in 3/4 quarters. LA Lakers were already behind by 11 points by the end of 1st half and the lead only grew in the 3rd quarter, when Clippers added another 13 points to their lead. Last quarter shifted in Lakers favour (29:21), but it was too late for a comeback. The match ended with a final score of 92:108. The next match we saw completely new Lakers and a completely new Lonzo Ball, who was just 1 assist shy of a triple-double. He finished the match with 29 points, which made him the highest scoring player of the game. To 29 points he added 11 rebounds and 9 assists to help his team take the first W of the season with the final score of 130:132. Looking at the match, the lead shifted 10 times between the teams and it was highly entertaining to watch, with winners being decided in the last seconds of the match. In the last 10 seconds of the match Lakers protected the basket with all they had and luckily it turned out as they wanted, with TJ. Warren missing both free throws to tie the game. Top scorers of the game; Ball (29pts), Bledsoe (28pts) and Ingram (25pts).
Today’s visiting team New Orleans Pelicans are having a rough start of the season, with 2 defeats behind them. Pelicans started their season with a match against Grizzlies at FedExForum. The first quarter looked promising, with Pelicans 7 points ahead of their opponents, but it all went south in the next 3 quarters. In 2nd quarter Grizzlies soon took back the lead and held off Pelicans offence for the remainder of the match, outscoring them by 9, 7 and 3 points in 2nd,3rd and 4th quarter. The match was arguably lost in 2nd and 3rd quarter for Pelicans when they shot only 23.8% and 29.3% from the field. Game statistics show only 38%FG for Pelicans, whereas Grizzlies managed to shot 42.2%. In the 2nd match of the season, Pelicans improved their shooting and a game as a whole, but they were put against last season champions, GSW who were a clear favourite to win the match. Same as in the match against Grizzlies, Pelicans dominated 1st quarter (39:26), but failed to perform in the next 3 quarters. All in all, they shot 45.9% from the field and managed to hit 16 3pt with 44.4% accuracy. Pelicans clearly improved their game compared to their opener with shooting and ball movement and if they continue that way, they will surely rack up some wins. Top scorers of the match: Cousins (35pts), Davis (35pts) and Thompson (31pts)
Verdict & Prediction
Lakers were playing very well in their recent match, but we mustn’t forget they played against one of the worst teams in the NBA, Phoenix Suns. Today they will go against one of the teams with the strongest frontcourt in the league and that will surely cause problems for Lakers defence. In addition, as mentioned before, Pelicans played extremely well against GSW and if they can repeat their performance, this should be a walk in the park for them.
Prediction: New Orleans Pelicans -4.00 points
Odds: 1.98 at 5Dimes, 1.93 at Pinnacle
