Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors v FC Tokyo – AFC Champions League
February 23 2016, Jeonju World Cup Stadium, 10:00 GMT +0
South Korean team Jeonbuk, 2006 AFC Champions League winners, will host Japanese team FC Tokyo in the AFC Group stage.
Jeonbuk secured their place in the AFC Champions League for a seventh consecutive year after winning their fourth K-League Classic. They managed to collect 73 points, 6 more that 2nd placed Suwon. Anyway, after last year’s defeat to Japan’s Gamba Osaka in the quarter-finals(3-2), they went on a shopping spree and bought a couple of quality players like striker Kim Shin-wook, midfielder Kim Bo-kyung, defender Kim Chang-soo and Australian Erik Paartalu to make the whole team more competitive. Sadly, they will be without Kim Kee-hee after the midfielder decided to join the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.
FC Tokyo managed to get into the group stage of this season’s Asian Champions League with a 9-0 play-off thrashing of Thailand’s Chonburi FC earlier this month. Victory earned them a second appearance in AFC, having reached the last 16 in 2010 before losing to eventual winners Ulsan Hyundai from South Korea.
I expect a tough match, with Jeonbuk probably winning the match, but currently the odds are to short for a straight win.
