Incheon United v Gyeongnam FC – K1 League

Incheon United v Gyeongnam FC - K1 League

In this betting preview, we will be checking out a match between Incheon United and Gyeongnam FC in the 2nd round of K1 league. The match will take place on March 9th at Sungui Arena Park, the home of Incheon United.

Incheon United enter this season as one of the worst teams last season, however, they managed to win 4/5 relegation matches, which resulted in them finishing 9th. While they were known to be one of the worst teams, Incheon United were also a team with the highest goal per game average (3.3). They scored 55 goals, however, conceded 69. While their offence was on point, the defence was leaking goals, which proved to be the main factor in their poor performances.  What saved this team from relegation was the change of the head coach. Under newly appointed Jorn Andersen, who is known for highly attacking mindset, Incheon managed to avoid the relegation. Some credit also goes to their key striker Stefan Mugosa, who netted 19 goals in 35 games, which made him one of the best strikers in the league. Heading into this season, Incheon also added Jiloan Hamad, Heo Yong-Joon and Nguyen Cong Phuong, which should add some more strength to already potent team. Nguyen Cong Phuong did not appear in the first match of the season, so this fixture might be his official debut in his new team.

Gyeongnam FC, unlike Incheon, had a great last season, where they managed to finish 2nd despite being newcomers. While they were impressive last time out, we will be looking at a different team this season. The league leaders in goals Marcao and defender Park Ji-soo left the team during winter and were replaced by Jordon Mutch in midfield and Luc Castaignos who will play up front. I expect those two players in addition to Takahiro Kunimoto and Negueba to be a deadly combination up front for any team they face. Looking at how Gyeongnam FC performed in the opening match of the season, they managed to defeat Seongnam 2:1 with goals from Kim Seung-Jun and Kunimoto. As for the AFC Champions League match, Gyeongnam FC failed to defeat Chinese team Shandong Luneng (2:2). Nonetheless, it was still an impressive result.

Incheon United will come into this match with a full squad, and the same can be said for Gyeongnam FC.

Both teams are expected to build on their solid starts of the season. The home side, Incheon will look to start this season better than the last one, and from what we have seen I have no doubt they will finish higher compared to their 2018 campaign. Heading into this match they have got a full squad, who in addition had a week to rest, while their opponents Gyeongnam FC travel to Sungui Arena Park after a tough match in the AFC Champions League on March 5th. That just might give Incheon an edge they need to win the first match of the season. Despite all that, Gyeongnam FC are known for having a deadly attack which should not be underestimated. All things considered, this one should prove to be a close match with plenty of scoring opportunities.
