Espanyol v Rayo Vallecano – Primera Division

March 7 2016, Cornellà-El Prat, 19:30 GMT+0

These two teams are currently at the bottom of the table, Espanyol is 2 points clear of relegation zone, whereas Rayo Vallecano is safe only due to goal difference. The home side is coming from a loss at home against Betis (0:3) who ended a run of 2 consecutive wins for Espanyol against La Coruna (1:0) and Gijon (2:4). I find their form to be inconsistent as they were dominated by recently promoted side at home. Constantin Galca’s side will be without Arbilla and Sylla against Rayo Vallecano. As for Canas, who has started training, his appearance is unsure.

Rayo Vallecano won the last H2H match (3:0), scoring 2 goals after Espanyol’s player being sent off. But then again, the home side has more possession and almost double the amount of shots on goal. Rayo lost the last match against Barcelona, which was expected to be fair. Even though Rayo got 2 players sent off, the winner was clear. Before that loss, they were unbeaten in 7 matches. Due to sending off Rayo will be without Iturra and Llorente as well as injured Cobeno, Ebret, Rat, Tono, Hernandez and Miku. We can expect Rayo to be able to replace missing players, Manucho or Guerra are expeted to lead the line, Itura will be must likely replaced by Raul Beana, and Piti or Caballero will be placed on the position of Hernandez. In conclusion, I believe Rayo will be a strong opposition to Espanyol, as they are better as it seems on the paper. With alternatives for all missing players, the sidelined players won’t be much of a problem.

Prediction: Rayo Vallecano +0.50
Odds: 1.97 Pinnacle
