ESBJERG v AARHUS – DENMARK SUPERLIGA
March 11 2016, Blue Water Arena, 17:00 GMT+0
Today we will witness a clash between two teams, that sit at the bottom of Superliga table. The hosts, Esbjerg are 5 points behind today’s opponents Aarhus.
Esbjerg are coming from a win against Randers FC (1:0), which means they are now 8 points off relegation zone and they do not need to worry about being relegated for now. Even though they won 3 back to back games prior to that win, Esbjerg has put up a great fight against league leaders Copenhagen (2:1), who stand firmly on the first place, 7 points clear of 2nd placed Aalborg and Sonderjyske. All in all it was a good performance by the visitors and it’s a sign of improvement in my eyes. At home stadium, Blue Water Arena hosts hold a record of (3-2-5), 2 of their wins coming in latest matches.
As for H2H between these two teams, the last one in Aarhus ended in a draw (0:0), I could also mention Esbjerg won the friendly in January (1:0).
Aarhus are recently promoted side from Danish 1st division. But it seems this season is causing them some problems, as they sit a third bottom place. A record (5-8-7) shows they have won 1 more game than their opponents today, but only 1 out of 5 wins came from a match on the road. Taking that into consideration I do not find Aarhus as a threat when they travel. Not only that, but the visitors only took 1 point from last 6 away matches, which is a sigh of terrible form when away from home. Even though Aarhus performs decent when paying at home, that won’t be the case today when they visit Esbjerg.
Last match from Aarhus ended in a draw against Copenhagen (0:0), but the visitors had only 10 men since 15′ and still the home side only managed to draw that match. So even a draw against league leaders is not a great accomplishment when taking a man advantage into consideration.
I believe Esbjerg can deliver today, as they have proven themselves in winter friendlies and a improvement of form plus home advantage could be enough to grab 3 points today.
Prediction: Esbjerg +0
