Dijon v Caen - France Ligue 1

Tonight we will see Dijon hosting Caen at Stade Gaston Gerard in hopes to add the 4th win to their 3 game winning streak. And on the other side Caen, who are hoping to taste their first league win since March.

The home side, Dijon have started the season the best possible way, that is with winning all of their 3 matches; against Montpellier (1:2), Nantes (2:0) and Nice (0:4). With that, they are now at the 2nd spot in the league with the same amount of points that Paris SG. To be fair it’s only the start of the season and it doesn’t mean much in the long run, but it’s a huge accomplishment for them, especially after finishing mid-table last season. The results they are enjoying now are quite impressive if we take into consideration their poor preseason, where they haven’t won any of the games. Maybe the reason behind their performances is the new goalkeeper (Runnarsson) or maybe they have just found their rhythm. Nonetheless, Dijon is a team to beat as of now.

The visiting team, Caen haven’t been playing their best. With 3 games behind them, they have only managed to accumulate 2 points with 2 draws against Nice (1:1) and Nantes (1:1), however, they failed to get any points in the opening match against Paris SG (3:0). Going into this match, they are in a slight disadvantage due to missing one of their key players Paul Bayasse in addition to playing at Dijon’s home stadium. Looking at other positions, Caen are at full strength and are expected to step into this match with the same squad as the one seen against Nantes.

Verdict & Prediction

Dijon will hope to continue with their exceptional performances, but should not underestimate Caen. Despite the guests somewhat poor performances, they approach their games well organized, even without a ball which could prevent Dijon to score. In addition, Caen will be happy with a draw so a defensive approach can be expected. That is why we won’t be picking the 2.25 line, despite the fact Dijon has proven to have a strong attack, especially in their last game against Nantes, which ended with 4:0. If given a chance, Dijon will attack with all their strength and might cause Caen some problems in the back. I do believe Dijon has a team that has enough experience (average age 26.9) to know how to approach this game and get their 4th win. Expect Dijon to grab another 3 points tonight.
