Crystal Palace will get a chance to end their 2 games losing streak in the 17th Round of Premier League when they will host Leicester at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace are currently 16th in the league, with an overall record of 3-3-10. Looking at their recent 5 games, they have won only 1 against Burnley (2:0), but failed to do the same against Manchester United (0:0), Tottenham (0:1), Brighton (3:1) and West Hame (3:2). As of now, Crystal Palace is the 2nd worst team when playing at home (1-2-4). Looking at their most recent match against West Ham, Crystal Palace held slightly more ball possession (51%) but did not use their possessions as well as West Ham, who had more shots on goal and goal attempts. Despite that, Crystal Palace was the only team that scored a goal in the first half (6th minute). Their lead held on until 48th minute when West ham scored a goal of their own, which levelled the score. In the 2nd half, it was once again West Ham who used their possessions better. They had a total of 10 goal attempts and 5 shots on goal, whereas Crystal Palace only had 5 goal attempts and 2 shots on goal. In the 62nd minute, West Ham scored their 2nd goal to which they added the 3rd only 3 minutes later in the 65th minute. With that, they were in a healthy lead 3:1 and as it seemed, the match was decided at that point. Crystal Palace did manage to score another goal in 76th minute, which reduced the gap to 1 goal, however, they failed to score an equalizer in the remaining 14 minutes. Final score: 3:2.
The visiting side, Leicester are currently 9th in the league with an overall record 6-4-6. In their last 5 games, they have won 1, lost 1 and played a draw in 3 matches. In away games, Leicester is 3-2-3, which is 7th best in the league. Looking at their last 5 away games, Leicester are 2-2-1, only losing to Arsenal (3:1), however, they are undefeated in their last 3 away games. Looking at their recent match against Fulham, Leicester suffered the first goal late in the first half, with Kamara scoring a goal in a 42nd minute, getting Fulham into a well-deserved lead. Despite having less possession of the ball (43%), Fulham used the ball more efficiently, as they had 11 goal attempts and 6 shots on goal, whereas Leicester had only 7 goal attempts and 2 shots on goal. The second half once again saw Leicester with more possession of the ball (51%), only this time they had more shots on goal (3) compared to Fulham who only managed to shoot the ball towards the goal once in 14 attempts. After 32 minutes of Fulham holding a lead, Leicester managed to close the gap with a goal of their own in the 74th minute. The match ended with the score 1:1, which gave Fulham their 9th point this season.
The last time these two teams met was on 28th of April 2018, when Crystal Palace clearly won 5:0, however, I do not believe we will see the same result, in fact, I am sure the final result here will be far from it. Crystal Palace are capable of creating chances to score, but fail to convert them into a goal. Against Brighton, they had 18 goal attempts, 5 shots on goal but only scored once, against Tottenham, Crystal Palace had 11 goal attempts and 4 shots on goal but no goals. The trend is clear and they are not as dangerous as they could be with the ball. At home, Crystal Palace is not performing too good either, as they only won one game out of 7. In addition, they scored only 4 goals, whereas conceded 8 in the span of those 7 games. On the other side, Leicester has a 3-2-3 record on the road, where they scored 11 goals but conceded 12. Taking all into consideration, this match will be a close one, however, with poor performances from Crystal Palace in recent games, I fancy Leicester to win their 7th game of the season.
