CAGLIARI v PESCARA – Serie B
February 20 2016, Sant Elia Stadium, 14:00 GMT+0
Today “The Sardinians” host third placed Pescara in a quest to get another 3 points and potentially make the margin between them and 2nd placed Crotone bigger. Currently, Cagliari is 3 points ahead of Crotone and with 16 more rounds to go, much can change at the top of the league.
Cagliari is coming from 4 consecutive wins, the last one taking place last week at Stadio Somma, where Cagliari visited Latina and came out as a winner (1:3). At Sant Elia Staduim “The Sardinians” are unbeaten in 13 matches, with only 1 draw against Como. That is a terrifying statistic to any visitors, as they can already expect to go back home empty-handed.
Cagliari boosts a great attacking line, and now with Melchiorri getting back in scoring form, with 2 goals in the last match, we can expect a few goals from the home side. As for missing player(s) only Dessena will sit out this match due to injury. The hole in midfield from missing Dessena we can expect wil be filled with Fossati, who is back to play with his team after missing 1 match, as well as Sau, who will surely help the offensive line.
“The Delfini” will have to swim to Sicilia to face off today’s opponents. All jokes aside, Pescara is a decent team this season. Even though they are a hefty 7 points behind Crotone, they managed to run away from 4th placed team, and are now 6 points ahead of Casena and Novara. But as I mentioned with a lot of rounds left this season there is a chance for Pescara to climb to 2 place, if they keep up the good performances. But the question is, will this quest to climb up the table start today?
Pescara is on 9 games undefeated run, with last 2 matches being only a draws against somewhat poor teams, Vincenza (1:1) and Salernitana (2:2). Those are not really results they can be proud of, and they only show there is room for improvement.
The visitors have a long list of missing players; Crescenzi, Campagnaro and Coda are all injured and have missed some matches already, whereas Verde and Fornasier (key defensive player). That missing player list is bad news, as 4 out of 5 are all defensive players and that will surely cause some problems in the back line. Returning players are Caprari, Mandragora and Verre, who will all join their squad after missing 1 match.
In all fairness to the visitors, who have shown they are a team that belongs in top 3, I believe today’s match up will be too much to handle, as their form has fallen a bit as can be seen in last 2 matches. This and missing players as well as home advantage of Cagliari will surely weaken “The Dolphins” who will most likely go home empty handed as 12/13 teams visiting Sant Elia Stadium did.
Prediction: Cagliari -0.75
