Brighton v Burnley – Premier League

Brighton v Burnley - Premier League

On February 9th, in the 26th round of Premier League, we will see Brighton hosting Burnley at Amex Stadium in Brighton, when these two sides face off against each other for the 2nd time this season.

Brighton are currently sitting at the 13th place in the Premier League with an overall record of 7-6-12. Looking at their recent matches, Brighton have only won 1 out of the last 6 games in all competitions. Their only win came from a match against West Brom on February 6th in the 1/16 finals of the FA Cup (1:3). While Brighton have not been impressive in their last league matches, the most recent win against West Brom was another picture. The match against West Ham was fairly close, with the only 2 goals being scored in the 90 minutes. The opener was scored in the 77th minute by West Brom. In the 82nd minute, Brighton answered with a goal of their own which levelled the match. When the final whistle blew the scoreline showed 1:1, which meant the teams went into the extra time. That was when we saw complete domination from the Brighton side, who scored 2 goals in the span of 13 minutes. They scored their 2nd goal in the 104th minute to which they added their 3rd in the 117th minute. With spectacular performance in the added time, Brighton deservingly won the match and advanced into the 1/8 finals where they will face off against Derby.

The visiting side today, Burnley are just barely above the relegation zone in the Premier League. With an overall record of 6-6-13 and 24 points, Burnley are just 2 points above Cardiff and 3 points behind Brighton, who they will face off against today. Looking at the recent performances, they are 1-3-1 in the last 5 games in all competitions. As for the league matches, Burnley are 2-3-0. The most recent match against Southampton on February 2nd ended in a draw (1:1). While this was not their best performance this season, the match prior to that is worthy of mentioning. Burnley managed to draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Not only that, but Burnley also scored 2 goals against United. The mentioned match did not see any goals in the first half, where we only saw 1 shot on goal from Burnley. The second half was far more interesting. Manchester United took control of the match. They held an 80% ball possession, had 20 goal attempts and 9 shots on goal, while Burnley only had 20% ball possession, 3 goal attempts and 3 shots on goal. Surprisingly enough, it was Burnley who scored the opener in the 51st minute to which they added another goal in 81st minute. With only 9 minutes to go Burnley were 2 goals ahead and it all seemed like they would win against Manchester United for the first time since 2009, but Manchester had other plans. in 87th minute United were awarded a penalty which they converted into a goal. 5 minutes later, United went on and scored another goal and with that levelled the match at 2:2. A disappointing end of the match for Burnley, who on the bright side still managed to play a draw against a top 5 team in the league. Final result: 2:2.

Brighton are coming into this match after a strong performance against West Brom, the match they won with 2 goals in the added time. While there is not a lot separating the two teams, Brighton are considered a favourite, which is fair, as they only lost 2 home matches in the last 10 and even those they lost to Liverpool (0:1) and Chelsea (1:2), 2 of the top teams in the league. On the other side, Burnley are 1-2-2 in their last 5 away games. Despite a poor record, their performance against United was great, as they managed to score 2 goals. Both teams proved they can score goals, but on the other side do not do the best job when it comes to defending their goal. All things considered, this match should end in at least 2 goals.

Prediction: Over 2.00 goals
Odds: 1.79 Pinnacle
