BRAGA v SION – Europa League
February 24 2016, Estadio Municipal de Braga, 17:00 GMT+0
Today we will witness 2nd leg of Europa League knock-out stage between Portuguese team and the Swiss team. First leg finished in Braga favor, who won (1:2) at the Stade de Tourbillon. In that match Braga scored a early goal in 13′ after a great inside pass from the middle of the court by Pinto, his pass landed on Stojilkovic and he was alone in front of the goal and converted the chance. At the start of 2nd half Sion answered with a goal of their own and the game was tied in 53′. Not long after Braga was again in the lead by a goal from Silva in 61′. The game the proceeded untill the end with the same score line. Due to second yellow card (delaying the game) in 90′ Vukcevic will not be available for the Portuguese today. So today the only job the home side has is to play defensive and keep the advantage they brought from Sion. But we can not expect that kind of play style from Paulo Fonseca’s squad.
In domestic league Braga is (7-3-1) at Estadio Municipal de Braga. I must also mention, “The Archibishops” are second in the league when you look at number of goals they score. With 29 goals in 11 matches, it only proves they do not use a tactic of defending, but much rather attack the opposition, as a saying goes “attack is the best defense“. Even at group stage Braga showed dominance at home stadium against all 3 opponents they faced, winning against Marsellie (3:2), Groningen (1:0) and Liberec (2:1).
The visitors are coming from a loss against Grasshoppers in domestic league (3:0), and now need to travel 1400 km to play against Braga. When we take a look at recent Sion matches, it is clear they struggle in defensive line, as they conceive a lot of goals all together. That surely won’t work in their favour today against attacking minded Braga.
As for missing players goes only Braga will miss one player. As mentioned before Nikola Vukcevic will sit out this match due to red card. SO we can expect Braga to step on the pitch with a similar squad as they used in previous win against Sion.
My prediction is Braga will win this one, as I can not see them playing defensive and keep the result they got in previous leg. With some great strikers, such as Ahmed Hassan, Nikola Stoliljkovic, Pedro Santos and Rafa Silva we can expect at least a 1 goal win by Braga.
Prediction: Braga -0.75
