Ronda Rousey returns for the UFC 207 fight against bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes after losing her title to the Holly Holm 13 months ago. In that fight she was completely destroyed by Holly. While Rousey was considering suicide after the fight, her opponent Amanda Nunes was rising to the top of the division. In August 2015 she managed to get a win against Sara McMann, submitting her in the first round. Earlier this year, she won with a decision win against Valentina Shevchenko. And finally, a win against Miesha Tate got her the belt.
Former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate knows Ronda Rousey and Amanda Nunes well and offered her own opinion on how she sees UFC 207 main fight going. Tate was soundly beaten by Rousey on two different occasions(Strikeforce 2012 and UFC 168 2013) and also lost to Nunes at UFC 200 couple of months ago. Miesha questioned whether Rousey really wants to fight anymore and thinks she’ll be shocked by the power Nunes possesses. I pretty much agree with everything she has to say about this fight.
“If she(Ronda Rousey) really wanted to be fighting, I think we would have seen her get back there,” Tate said. “Really competitive people, when they lose, they’re all ‘I want to get back in and do it again, do it again, do it again and prove I can get better.’ I’m not saying that’s always a wise decision but typical some people who lose, they want to fight, go back in there and get their redemption. Taking a year and some change off says that she wants to do some other things. I don’t think she wants to be in there fighting anymore. I have never been hit that hard in my life, and she packs one hell of a punch. I’ll tell you one thing, it’s only going to take one of those to land clean and she’s going to ring Ronda’s bell. … If she gets one of those on the button, it’s going to be a game changer. When push comes to shove, I don’t know if Ronda’s heart is in it any more. Amanda’s is.”
Verdict & Prediction
“The lioness” has the most accurate power striking of anyone at UFC 207. This was shown when she managed to win the title fight against Miesha Tate at UFC 200 via first-round submission. She can be very accurate while aggressive and this will be a big problem for a fighter like Ronda Rousey, who has poor defensive metrics. I expect a short fight, with Amanda Nunes winning at the end.
Prediction: Amanda Nunes to win
