GALATASARAY v LAZIO – Europa League
February 18 2016, Tűrk Telekom Arena, 20:05 GMT+0
Lazio advanced out of group G, but don’t that information get you too hyped about their performance, as they had an arguably easy group. With out of form St Etienne as well as Dnipro and Rosenborg who just aren’t at the same level quality wise, Lazio came out on the 1st place without a defeat. On the other hand the “Eagles” are on 7th place in Serie A which is a somewhat poor placement.
The main problem for Lazio is lack of a good attacking players, so Miroslav Klose still remains a key player in attack, despite his 37 years. Whereas Alessandro Matri spends most of his time on the injury list. Anderson and Candreva are currently leading scorers with 6 and 7 goals, but let’s be fair, most of those goals come from penalties.
As far as missing players go, Keita, Basta and De Vrij will all miss this match, whereas Radu and Bisevac are still doubtful to step up on the pitch today.
The home side were given a place in this competition after finishing 3rd in Champions league group C after Atletico Madrid and Benfica. Even though Galatasaray lost against relegation candidate Mersin (2:1), they seem to prioritise cup competitions, as they have already won 3 cup games. Being 15 points behind Fenerbache and 15 behind Bestikas, Galatasaray can let go of dreams of winning Super Lig this season.
Despite somewhat poor performances in their domestic cup, I find Galatasaray as a team that tends to perform better when it comes to cup competitions. With in form strikers Lukas Podolski and Burak Yilmaz the Turks seem as a favourites in today’s match and that is why I predict they can manage to cut the wings of the “Eagles” on Tűrk Telekom Arena, where the supporters will surely make an atmosphere which will help their home team get a win.
Prediction: Galatasaray +0
Odds: 2.16 Pinnacle
